Final Post

10 Apr
1992-93 Upper Deck - Doug Gilmour

How cool was Doug Gilmour?

Well, you know what they say… all mediocre things must come to an end.  So, this is the final post at Sorting by Teams.

It’s been a blast for me here the past few years, but I needed a new format for what I’m doing here.  I’m going to keep doing a lot of the same stuff, and might even recycle some material in a bit of a different way, so don’t get mad.

That said, I also wanted to have some flexibility to do some new things, and to be honest, I kind of wanted a new name too.  It’s just time.  So, my new internet home is going to be at outlawingastroturf.wordpress.com.  Outlawing AstroTurf.  Just like Crash Davis wanted.  This game’s fun, ok?  Fun, goddamnit.

If you enjoyed this website, check that one out. You’ll see some similarities.

If you didn’t enjoy this website, well, I don’t have words for you.

Keep it real.

Introduction

3 Jul

My reintroduction to my childhood obsession started with the intention of getting drunk.  A buddy procured some old boxes from a local distributor he knew, and invited a few of us over to relive our childhood hobby with a couple of cases of beer and a barbecue.  We got annihilated, ripped through some cards from our youth, and generally acted like idiots.  From that point on, I was hooked back on the hobby.

I believe collecting cards should be just like that evening was – fun.  To me, it’s not about the money.  It’s great to pull a valuable card, no question, but that’s not what I’m in it for.  And yeah, I sort my cards by teams, like I’m 8 years old.

Sorting By Teams is intended to be a place for me to share my views on the hobby with others and to have a few laughs along the way – even if I’m the only one laughing.  Some categories to get us started are “Names I Can’t Believe Aren’t Famous,” “Manly, Magical Mustaches,” and “Things I Read on the Back of Cards.”

Hopefully you enjoy the delightfulness that is this blog.  However, I don’t care if you do, because I’m going to enjoy it anyway.  Have fun.
